Please help me end Pet Homelessness

On Saturday, May 5th, I will be walking with hundreds of other wonderful people and their dogs in 17th Annual Wag n' Walk, a walk to help end pet homelessness. I have been volunteering at the SPCA of Monterey County for a little over a year now. While there I have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people and even more amazing animals. I spend most of my time in the barns with the horses, chickens, ducks, rabbits, rats, and the occasional goat, but I have also had the chance to work with the dogs as a walker and playmate. I have come to learn many things about myself by watching the animals’ never ending love and willingness to please the humans in their lives, even while they are at a shelter waiting for that perfect forever home.
Day in and day out these animals wag their tails, meow and purr, whinny and approach for a scratch of the head or for a good grooming, but they rarely ask for anything but love and attention. It takes a lot to make sure all of the animals at the SPCA get the care they deserve. This is why I am writing you today. The 17th annual SPCA Wag ‘n’ Walk takes place on May 5th, 2012. Last year over 360 people came to the Shoreline Park with their dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds (some even in costume) to walk to Lovers Point and back to help end pet homelessness in Monterey County. The walk raised over $100,000. Last year was the first year I was able to support this cause and I cannot put into words how much fun and inspiring the event was.
This year I am part of the SPCA Barn team to help raise money for all the amazing animals that call the SPCA home (for now), and I would love the help and support of all of you. Our team goal is $2,000 and I have a personal goal to raise $500 by the event date. You can donate money to me and my team and leave it at that. Or, you can register and come walk, with or without a dog. The registration starts at 8:30 along with a continental breakfast; the walk begins at 9:30 and the fun ends around noon. Just like last year, the walk is from Shoreline Park (by the Coastguard Pier) to Lovers Point or as far as you want and back to the Park. After the walk there is a talent show (for the dogs) as well as best dressed (also for the dogs).

They are companions, secret-keepers, jogging buddies, heaters, man’s best friend, children and family.
